Description of Event:

Identify key reasons why tobacco use must be addressed in clients suffering with mental illness and/or substance abuse. Speakers will review barriers to treat and offer options to break down barriers, evaluate various assessment tools for tobacco intake, list the disease states that are causally related to tobacco intake and match treatment options to clients for optimal outcomes in tobacco cessation.

Highlight the dangers of smokeless tobacco and encourage users to quit by calling the Arkansas Tobacco Quitline. Special guest, Rick Bender, will be present to share his experience about losing part of his jaw because of smokeless use. Dr. Bryan Whitaker, Director of the Arkansas Department of Health’s Oral Health office will also speak about the danger of using smokeless tobacco.
